What you're actually paying for
The free month answers the urgent question: is there a catch here? It reads your real documents and shows you the wording it used.
The full read answers the next two: what else is in there, and what do I do about it. That means every finding rather than the top two, the action plan with its deadlines, an honest list of what your evidence doesn't tell us, and five questions you can put to that specific document. During the 30 free days you get all of that, up to three documents a day. The full detail is in our terms.
We charge £1.99 a month rather than selling a one-off read because most people who get stung once go looking for the catch somewhere else within a few weeks — the next renewal, the next policy, the next contract they're asked to sign. The point of the membership is that the second and third look are already paid for.
What Small Print Pal will not do
We won’t tell you whether a term is enforceable, whether you have a legal claim, or what a court would decide. We don’t compare your contract to what the law requires, and we don’t act on your behalf. We’re not a law firm and this isn’t legal advice.
We also won’t dress up a guess as a fact. Where your document is silent or the wording is ambiguous, we say so in the result rather than filling the gap in.
Common questions
Is there a free trial?⌄
Yes — 30 days, and we don't take a card. Sign in with Google and the full read of your document is unlocked immediately. We only ask for payment when the 30 days are up, and only if you want to carry on.
What does the free check include?⌄
Sign in to start your 30-day free period. You get the full read of your own documents, including findings, action plans and focused questions.
What exactly does £1.99 unlock?⌄
The full read of your documents, every finding quoted from your own wording, your action plan, the gaps in your evidence, and five focused questions about each document. It is not open-ended AI chat.
How many documents can I check?⌄
Three a day, and that applies during the free month and after it — it's a fair-use limit rather than a monthly allowance to ration, so nothing carries over and nothing runs out. It exists because each document is read by an AI model we pay for. Three a day is twelve a week, which is more than a household needs, and the detail is in our terms. Five questions come with each document. After the trial, membership is £1.99 a month.
What happens when the 30 days end?⌄
Nothing is taken automatically, because we never asked for a card. You can subscribe for £1.99 a month to keep checking new documents, or simply leave it.
How do I cancel?⌄
In one click, from your billing page. No phone call, no email, no retention offer, no “are you sure” sequence. Your membership runs to the end of the period you've already paid for and then stops.
Do I get the 14-day cancellation right on my own contract?⌄
Often, but not always. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 most distance and off-premises contracts carry a 14-day right to change your mind, but there are exemptions — bespoke or made-to-order goods, and services that were fully performed within the 14 days with your agreement. We tell you where your wording points, and we say so plainly when it doesn't cover you.
Is this legal advice?⌄
No. We're a checker, not an adviser. We don't tell you what the law says about your contract and we don't judge whether a term is enforceable. What we do is show you what your own document says, in plain English, with the wording quoted so you can check it yourself.
Is my document private?⌄
Your document is used to produce your answer and is not sold or published. You can ask us to delete your data at any time, and there's a data deletion page that tells you exactly how. Read the Trust Centre for the detail on how documents are handled.
Before you pay
The 30 days are free, so there is nothing to decide yet — run a real document through it and see whether the answer is useful. When the 30 days are up, if your contract is short, standard, and the only thing at stake is a small sum, save your money and read it yourself. The £1.99 earns its place when the numbers are large, when there's a deadline, or when the wording is dense enough that you can't tell what you're agreeing to.
