Why pay when advice is free?

Free advice tells you what usually happens. We tell you what your contract actually says.

There is no shortage of free opinion about the small print. Forums, social posts and general AI chat will all happily explain what typically happens with a gym membership, a mobile contract or a flight refund. The problem isn’t that the advice is wrong — it is that it isn’t about your document, and you have no way to tell how far it applies to you.

Small Print Pal does one narrower, more useful thing: it reads the wording you give it and quotes the clauses that decide your situation, so every claim traces back to a line you can read yourself.

Where the answer comes fromGeneral knowledge. Whatever is typical for that kind of contract. The wording in the document you supplied, quoted back to you verbatim so you can check it.
Whether it applies to youUsually unclear. You’re told what happens in the common case, not in yours.States what your wording does and does not cover, and flags it when your document is silent.
What it costs youNothing to ask. Nothing to hold it to either.Free for 30 days, no card, then £1.99 a month, cancel any time in one click. Metered in the sense that you can leave whenever you like.
When it’s wrongYou often can’t tell. The advice sounds the same whether it fits your contract or not.Every finding carries a confidence level, and the result lists what we still don’t know.
What it won’t doVaries. Often sounds more certain than it has any right to be.Won’t tell you what’s legal or enforceable, won’t guess a deadline your document doesn’t state.

What “quoted from your document” means in practice

When we find something that matters, we show you the wording it came from. Not a summary of a summary, and not a plausible-sounding sentence we made up. If a contract says an early termination charge is the remaining monthly charges less three per cent, that is what you see — with the figure worked through, because that sentence is worth a great deal of money and it deserves to be read exactly as written.

We also tell you when the document doesn’t answer your question. A tool that always produces a confident answer is worse than useless on small print, because the cases where the wording is silent are exactly the cases where you’d otherwise get caught out. So each result lists the gaps in the evidence we were given.

When the free options are the right call

We’d rather tell you this than take £1.99 you didn’t need to spend:

When paying for this pays for itself

One cancellation fee you avoid, one renewal you catch before it rolls, one exit fee you didn’t know about until you tried to leave — any of those is worth more than a year of the membership. That is the whole argument for £1.99 a month.

Start with the free check

One document, no account and no card. If it finds something, signing in unlocks the full read free for 30 days — every finding, the action plan, and five questions about that document. No payment until the 30 days are up.

What we are not

We are a checker, not an adviser. Small Print Pal doesn’t decide whether a term is enforceable, doesn’t predict what a court would do, and doesn’t act on your behalf. If you need a legal opinion, you need a solicitor — and if you’re not sure which you need, the free check will usually make that obvious.
